Are Places That Use Piercing Guns Safe?

No. While piercing guns are a common body piercing method used by untrained body piercers at retail locations, they aren't sanitary and are often more painful than the tools used at a professional piercing studio. These machines pierce skin using blunt force that thrusts the piercing jewelry into the piercing area. The problem with these machines is that piercing jewelry isn't sharp enough to penetrate skin, making it much more painful than the professional piercing needles used at licensed piercing studios. Piercing guns are also made of plastic, which is nearly impossible to clean properly (they’re usually just wiped down with a sanitary wipe between uses) which significantly increases the risk of infection. It’s best to choose a professional body piercing studio that utilizes the needle piercing method, Fine Ink Studios in Central Florida.

How Do You Choose a Body Piercing Studio?

Choosing the right studio is one of the most important decisions you'll make when getting your piercing. You should feel welcome and relaxed from the moment you walk in. You'll also want to choose a studio that prioritizes safety and cleanliness. At Fine Ink Studios, we're committed to providing safe and professional ear piercings in Orlando and throughout Central Florida. We follow strict health regulations to ensure a safe, healthy, and enjoyable piercing experience.

How Do I Pick Which Body Piercing I Should Get?

There are tons of options for body piercings! If you're not sure the type of piercing or placement you want to get, check out our list of trending body piercing styles and Instagram for inspo. Styles we're loving right now? Ear stacking, paired lip, and dermals. Still can't decide? You can chat with your body artist to determine the perfect placement and feasibility based on your unique body structure and desired piercing.

What Jewelry Should I Choose For My Piercing?

Stay away from low-quality metals like sterling silver when getting pierced. Opt for implant-grade titanium, niobium, and nickel-free gold that's at least 14K, like what you'll get from Invictus, our go-to piercing jewelry supplier at Fine Ink Studios. When you book your appointment with us, your body artist will help you select the best piercing jewelry (including style, gauge, and threading) based on your desired piercing.

How Much Will My Body Piercing Hurt?

While pain is often subjective, how much your piercing may hurt will depend on its location and placement. Cartilage piercings, like helix, daith, conch, and nose piercings, feel like pressure. Soft tissue piercings, like on your earlobe, may feel like a quick pinch. We can tell you the momentary discomfort is well worth the feeling of seeing your new piercing for the first time! Professional body piercers, like our team at Fine Ink Studios, are expertly trained and state-certified to create the most comfortable, professional, and hygienic piercing experience around. We also use professional tools that decrease pain levels, especially when compared to other piercing methods like using a piercing gun.

What Should I Avoid Doing After Getting A Body Piercing?

You'll want to avoid activities that could cause friction in the piercing area. Wear loose-fitting clothing over the piercing to prevent snagging and soreness. If you're not sure whether you should participate in a hobby or task during the healing process, be sure to mention this to your Orlando body piercer. Your artist will provide recommendations based on your piercing and lifestyle. You'll also want to avoid touching the piercing as much as possible, including twisting the jewelry.

How Do I Know My Piercing Is Healing Properly?

Your piercing is an open wound and should be treated like it. Most piercings heal adequately on their own, as long as you follow your body piercer's aftercare instructions and avoid activities that could snag, rip, or tear the piercing area. It's common to experience some redness, tenderness, and slight swelling for a few days after getting your piercing. However, you'll want to see a doctor if your piercing starts to bleed, swelling won't go down, or you have a fever within 24 hours after getting the piercing. These could all be signs of an infection.

How Long Will it Take My Piercing to Heal?

How long it takes to fully heal your piercing depends on its placement and your aftercare routine. Piercings in high-friction areas, like your navel, nose, hips, and collarbone, may take longer to heal than more sheltered locations that don't have the potential to snag on clothing, hair, and accessories like glasses. Earlobe piercings take the quickest to heal: generally between six and eight weeks. Cartilage piercings on your ear, nose, and navel take the longest to heal, with recovery time lasting six months or more. Listen to your body artist for aftercare instructions to promote faster healing. Also, don't swap out the jewelry until your piercing artist gives you the go-ahead to ensure the piercing has fully healed first.
